Camaleones celebradores

Focus - Masters From The Vault ( dvd ) 609 mb one link olny

DVD Focus band promised our good friend Vasily Zaytsev

- Retrospective captures a brief history of the band as told by Thijs van Leer. The beginning is excellent showing the early period when they rehearsed at the big castle. Particularly funny are the scenes from the kitchen where a bunch of their artists friends were hanging around while a girl served giant slices of Dutch cheese (probably Edam?). However, the later period is not presented at all, so there is a huge gap between 1974 and their reunion tour in 2002. We don't really get a picture what was happening with FOCUS after Akkerman left in late seventies.
- Medley from 1973 is very good performance "live" in studio, with Akkerman and van Leer shining while delivering amazing solo parts.
- Hamburger Concerto is an excerpt from a concert where we see the band at their peak. At this moment, long jam sessions contain more elements from jazz rock.
Overall, this is very good and highly recommended video collection, although the Retrospective part is somewhat unfinished.

The Third Power - Believe (1970 us detroit hard rock)

The Third Power was Detroit's answer to Cream back in the late 60's to early 70's and in fact did a rendition of "I'm So Glad" that rivaled anything Cream did. Third Power was intense sonic output, a power trio that used high output vacuum tube Traynor amps and pretty much did entirely original music. And they did it at volumetric deciblage that surely contributed to hearing loss among many an aged hippie; the Who had little edge in that respect save they had a bigger PA system. Third Power was always a draw at any Detroit venue and personally my other favourite Detroit group (SRC was first even though they were from Ann Arbor). This album is purely studio; way too produced and laden with overdubs impossible to duplicate live, at least with the technology available then (multi key synthesizers were light years away) and it was not strong enough to capture the all important top 40 FM market and most importantly, did not sell well outside of Detroit and related environs. Still, it is well worth a listen and does represent an accurate accounting of the Detroit music scene along with some decent lyrics and musicianship. Should you have liked the MC-5 or The Frost, this would be the intesity of these groups amplified with a more cerebral appeal.

COMPRIMIDOS CON 7ZIP

Judas Priest - Sin After Sin - 1977.

1. Sinner
2. Diamonds And Rust
3. Starbreaker
4. Last Rose Of Summer

Taste Of Blues - Schizofrenia - 1969

Their album belongs to the pure underground psychedelic sixties cult classics of Sweden, along with (International) Harvester and Mecki Mark Men. The title track on their album Schizofrenia was one whole side of repetitive voodoo rhythms (resembling the early style of Can) with eerie Farfisa organ tones (a la Richard Wright's early style circa 1967-68), flute, violin, sax and guitar playing successive solos, both pre-planned and improvised. A spellbinding example of Swedish krautrock! The remaining tracks were more conventional and blues-based, including a version of John Mayall's "Another Kinda Love". The black American Don Washington provided the vocals

T.2. - It´ll All Work Out In Boomland ( 1970 )

An obscure but now rare and quite sought-after album by a short-lived progressive rock trio. Formed in 1970, drummer Peter Dunton had previously been with Gun and Keith Cross and Bernard Jinks had been in Bulldog Breed. Some likened Cross to Eric Clapton and the group made a successful appearance at the 1970 Isle Of Wight Festival and had a residency at the Marquee for a while. Their album contained an epic, 21-minute power rock cut, Morning, and is certainly one of the better early seventies progressive rock efforts. Another of its cuts, No More White Horses, had a great freaky ending.

Track Listings.

***__The Firm - Mean Business [1986][@320]__***

Hard rock supergroup the Firm united former Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page with onetime Free and Bad Company frontman Paul Rodgers; bassist Tony Franklin and ex-Uriah Heep drummer Chris Slade completed the lineup, founded in 1984. Their self-titled debut album appeared on Atlantic a year later, cracking the Top 20 on the strength of the hit single "Radioactive," but overall the record's impact was relatively minimal given the pedigrees of Page and Rodgers, and even the reaction to the group's lone tour proved surprisingly lukewarm. After one more LP, 1986's Mean Business, the Firm shut down; while Page and Rodgers resumed their respective solo careers, Franklin later resurfaced in Blue Murder, and Slade joined AC/DC.

***__Ian Gillan Band – Clear Air Turbulence [1977][@256]__***

When Ian Gillan was recording his solo albums in the late 1970s and early '80s, Deep Purple's influence never went away. But Gillan did make an effort to try different things, and he was at his most experimental on Clear Air Turbulence. Enjoyable, if uneven, this album illustrates Gillan's willingness to take some chances. While the singer favors an aggressive hard rock groove on "Money Lender," the jazz fusion-influenced touches of "Over the Hill," "Goodhand Liza" and the title song could lead you to believe that you'd been listening to Weather Report and Return to Forever. Had Chick Corea formed an alliance with Deep Purple, perhaps it might sound something like "Over the Hill." Heavy metal and hard rock are in short supply on this album, which employs no less than five horn players and shows that Gillan didn't want to be a headbanger 100-percent of the time.

Blue Goose - Selftitled (Superb US Blues-hardrock 1976)-

"Inspired, firstly by Eric Clapton, then later by Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Clarke (Later with Motorhead, Fastway) began a guitar-playing career around his hometown of Twickenham in Middlesex. By the time he was 15, Eddie had been through many local bands, one of whom went under the name of The Bitter End.

Eddie continued gigging around locally until 1973, when he turned professional by joining Curtis Knight’s band, Zeus, as lead guitarist. This was an incredible turn of coincidence for Eddie, as most rock fans will probably know that Jimi Hendrix played with Curtis Knight’s band, The Squires, during his pre-Experience days, so for Eddie, this was a particularly poignant step to take. Other personnel in the Zeus line-up at the time were Chris Perry (drums), Nicky Hogarth (keyboards) and John Weir (bass).

Bead Game - Welcome (Good US Psychedelic Rock 1970)

Hard rocking and sometimes melodic late 60s psychedelic album from Boston with great interplay between Hendrix style fuzz guitar and heavy keyboards. "Welcome" was produced by Gary Katz, best known for his production work for Steely Dan. Due to Katz, Bead Game's drummer Jim Hodder eventually became a founding member of Steely Dan and played on their first three albums . Sadly, he drowned in his swimming pool in 1990, but this is more than a fine testament to his talents.

***__Darryl Way's Wolf - Saturation Point [1973][JPN MASTERING SHM-CD][@256]__***

When CURVED AIR fell apart in 1972-1973 Darryl Way formed a new band called WOLF or DARRYL WAY'S WOLF who carried on much in the same style as CURVED AIR. The band compromised of Darryl Way (naturally) on violin and keyboards, Ian Mosley on drums (later to be in TRACE, STEVE HACKETT's band and of course MARILLION), John Etheridge on guitar (later to be a member of SOFT MACHINE) and Dek Messacar on bass (later to be a member of CARAVAN).

They recorded three albums ("Canis Lupus" (1973), "Saturation Point" (1973) and "Night Music" (1974) of mainly instrumental tracks heavily influenced by classical music. Comparisons to CURVED AIR are inevitable as well as CARAVAN and ELP.

The band never really had any commercial break through despite making some decent recordings and being an excellent live act. Recommended!

Shuttah - The Image Maker (Very Rare UK Prog-Psych 1971) (2CD)

This is the rarest of unknown, anonymous English prog-psych from 1971, with only one known copy left in existence -- a perfect acetate. The Image Maker Vol. 1 & 2 is a real underground concept album with a progressive touch that only needs a few spins to get it right. Well-crafted songs, great vocals, sound-effects, organ and heavy fuzz guitar all combine to make up one of the better albums on the Vertigo label with a good dose of acid in it. Shadoks Music spoke to Geoff Oliver, the former owner of IBC recording studios, but he could not remember any of the recordings made by Shuttah in his studio -- there were just too many engineers busy at the same time, during those golden days of the London underground, where studios were recording music which became big hits. IBC was famous for making recordings for bands such as The Kinks, The Who and The Beatles, plus many, many others, which leads one to the conclusion that this recording of Shuttah was very expensive to make, so there MUST be a famous musician behind it. The recording, arrangements and concepts are on a very high professional level. Even a search at UK copyright control did not show any results revealing the identity of who, exactly, Shuttah was. Since the original acetates appeared many years ago, this is still a very provocative unsolved mystery of the UK underground. The word Shuttah is a religious reference, if you have a Bible handy. The title of the album The Image Maker also suits the religious meaning.

Double CD containing the only known recording by this unknown UK progressive rock band that survived as an acetate. Funky, atmospheric concept based progressive rock from 1971 with swathes of heavy keyboards, harpsichord, bass, guitar and melodic vocals that at times sounds like Home's "Alchemist" epic. What distinguishes this album is the top quality production and fully detailed booklet and it all adds up to one stunning reissue.

Second Hand - Reality (1st Album Of Great UK Psychdelia 1968) [@256].

The first album by this confused bunch of excellent musicians still holds its ground after 27 years. Its unusual mixture of poetic psych with Hendrixy or Arthur Brownish heavy episodes and progressive (in 1968!) structures is inventive and only slightly flawed by not always strong vocals. Lovely arrangements and above average compositions make this recommended. Highlights: the opening cut A Fairy Tale (great mellotron) and the trippy title track. Don't let the cover art fool you: it's meant to look "second hand".

The second album from a thoroughly revised line-up, of which two versions exist (one with and one without the funeral march), is much more complicated and even closer to Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come. Fully developed progressive compositions and all kinds of keyboards dominate, often there are two or three different ones simultaneously, producing many very different textures. The rhythms are complex and unusual, enriched with odd time-signatures, at times drifting off towards inaccessibility, but always coming together. The atmosphere is sombre, yet not always completely serious (another Arthur Brown parallel). Not much easy listening here, nor are there any virtuoso passages. A very good record, though, definitely as recommended as the first one, albeit on different grounds.

Serpent Power - The Serpent Power + 1 (Soft West Coast 1967) [@256

A San Francisco band led by poet David Meltzer. He formed the band with his wife Tina in 1966. Ed Denton (then manager of Country Joe And The Fish) recommended them to Vanguard after hearing their first gig, a benefit for the Telegraph Group Neighborhood Centre on 27th November 1966. Stenson and Ellis had earlier played with The Grass Roots. The album is notable for some tasty mellow guitar work on tracks such as Gently Gently and Open House, whilst Tina's beautiful vocals are to the fore on Flying Away, a beautiful mellow song. However, the group are probably best remembered for the album's closing track Endless Tunnel, an ambitious amalgam of Western and Eastern musical styles. Now a mini collectors' item this album is recommended.

A second album, Green Morning, was recorded for Capitol but shelved until its release in 1998.

After the demise of Serpent Power, the Meltzer's made a further album, POET SONG, which is also worth obtaining.

Bob Cuff later joined the band from Mystery Trend. Moscoso later played for The Cleveland Wrecking Co. and eventually became a carpenter in Marin County.

Jean-Paul Pickens, who was one of San Francisco's legendary 'Diggers', and his friend Gene Estribou released an unusual and rare folk album, Intensifications (MEA Records ) circa 1967. (Pickens plays banjo solos on Side Two!)

Tanger - Mundos Paralelos - 2008

Tangerianos camaleones
excelente album

Paul Rodgers And Company - The Hendrix Set (Live) 1993

On July 4, 1993, Paul Rodgers, the voice of Bad Company, Free, the Firm and the Law, assembled a first-rate band in Miami, Fl to play for Independence Day festivities. On this occasion, his guitarist was Neal Schon, former Santana protege and driving force behind Journey. Among the tunes they played that eve was a fabulous, hard-driving set composed by ultimate guitar man Jimi Hendrix. Starting with all-time fave "Purple Haze," Rodgers and co. rocked their way through twenty five minutes of pure magic. Schon wails away as if Jimi himself were playing the strings, while Rodgers, that master of understated passion, gives fresh vocal nuances to "Little Wing", finds the playfulness in "Foxy Lady," and grafts a couple of verses of Cream's "I Feel Free" onto "Stone Free". The combination fits like the proverbial glove! One last reminder: This set is an EP, not an LP, and as such is only about 25 minutes long, rather than the customary 50-60 minutes or more. However, Rodgers and Schon give more value to the music on this EP than most artists give to "full length" CDs.

1. Purple Haze
2. Stone Free
3. Little Wing
4. Manic Depresion
5. Foxey Lady

Primera Parte
a- La casa de la mente
b- Prolijas virtudes del olvido
c- Sueños blancos, ideas nuevas
d- Savios de vida

Segunda parte
a- Eterna evidencia
b- Tiempo de ideas
c- Hay un mundo cerrado dentro tuyo
d- Hay un mundo luminoso

REDD - Tristes Noticias del Imperio - 1979

Camaleones Imperiales:
